Pawlenty: Budget can handle minor downturn
June 4, 2003
Gov. Tim Pawlenty says the state budget can absorb a minor downturn in the economy but not another major drop. Speaking in Minneapolis, Pawlenty said the budget that passed the Legislature builds up a reserve of more than $500 million, so if there's a "minor hiccup" the state should be able to deal with it. But if the economy tumbles badly, Pawlenty says state officials will have to re-evaluate all their options. Listen to Pawlenty's wide-ranging discussion at a meeting of the Society of Professional Journalists.
