Minneapolis — Police are searching for a missing boater believed to be in the water since last night in Lake Minnetonka.

The two families' boats were tied up overnight to a buoy in St. Louis Bay near Deephaven Beach on the east side of Lake Minnetonka.

Two fathers and two children were aboard the boat to spend the night on the lake. When the children awoke this morning, one of the fathers was missing.

Police were called about 9:10 a.m. Sunday morning. As of 1:30 p.m. this afternoon about 25 officers from multiple departments are actively working the scene . The Hennepin County Sherriff's Water Patrol is using sonar to search the lake bottom for the missing man in about 10 to 15 feet of water.

Numerous onlookers at the scene are hoping for the best at this time, but other searches for the missing man on dry land have not been successful.
