Convention creates eventful week for Dorothy Day Center

September 4, 2008

St. Paul, Minn. — The Dorothy Day Center homeless shelter is located across the street from the Xcel Energy Center. On the final day of the Republican National Convention, Catholic Charities CEO Rev. John Estrem talked about how the convention had changed life for the center's clients and employees.

Estrem said fewer clients that usual visited the Dorothy Day Center, and some normal activities were relocated to other sites during the convention week.

Though no politicians visited the center during the convention, Estrem said, protests and other disruptions made for some tense moments.
