Wall Street surges more than 6 percent

New York (AP) — Stocks mounted a huge rebound after being down sharply earlier in the session.
The Dow soared 552 points to 8,835. That was the third-largest point gain in history coming after three days of declines.
The S&P gained nearly 59 points to 911.
And the Nasdaq composite surged 97 points to 1,596.
Advancing issues led decliners by a 3 to 1 margin.
Volume on the NYSE came to 7.4 billion shares. Nasdaq volume was 3 billion shares.
